{"id":5422,"date":"2022-04-22T10:20:43","date_gmt":"2022-04-22T09:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.contentdeployment.co.uk\/tomd\/?p=5422"},"modified":"2022-04-22T10:22:57","modified_gmt":"2022-04-22T09:22:57","slug":"pension-wealth-increasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.contentdeployment.co.uk\/tomd\/2022\/04\/22\/pension-wealth-increasing\/","title":{"rendered":"Pension wealth increasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>New data from\nthe Office for National Statistics (ONS) Wealth and Assets Survey<sup>1<\/sup>\nhas revealed that the largest single component of household wealth is private\npension holdings. <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>In the latest\nrecorded period (April 2018 to March 2020) pensions represented 42% of aggregate\nwealth, up from 34% (2006-08), an increase in pension wealth of nearly \u00a370k on\naverage for UK households. This growth can be attributed to various factors\nincluding more households having private pensions due to auto-enrolment and\nrising longevity meaning pension savings have increased proportionally.\nMeanwhile, property wealth (minus mortgage debt) made up 36% of household\nwealth; financial wealth, or savings or investments, made up 13%; and physical\nwealth, such as cars and house contents, totalled 9%. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Underlying\nwealth per household for the latest recorded period was \u00a3302,500 at the median\nor midpoint level, which is up from \u00a3286,600 in the previous two years, and up\nby a fifth over the past 14 years, when adjusted for inflation. The data also shows\nmedian wealth was highest for households where a member was aged between 55\nyears and State Pension age; the figure of \u00a3553,400 being 25 times higher than\nfor those aged 16-24 years of age. The wealthiest 10% of households held 43% of\nall the wealth, whereas the bottom 50% held only 9%. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>ONS, 2022<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>The value of\ninvestments and income from them may go down. You may not get back the original\namount invested. A pension is a long-term investment. The fund value may\nfluctuate and can go down.
