Flats and maisonettes that are converted are typically more expensive to insure than those that are purpose-built.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-heading\">\n<h2><strong>When it costs more<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Most house policies cost a similar amount (between \u00a3230 and \u00a3250), except for detached houses which are pricier with an average of \u00a3301.72. Insuring your home tends to become more expensive until the ages of 41-50, when it reaches a peak of \u00a3319.03. After that, policies become cheaper, likely due to homeowners downsizing in later life.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-heading\">\n<h2><strong>Factors to consider<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Generally, the more bedrooms you have, the more expensive your home insurance policy will be, which is something to consider if you\u2019re thinking about adding a bedroom through conversion or extension. Between May and July 2025, the most common reason for claiming on home insurance was escape of water (29.7%), followed by accidents (23.71%). This shows it\u2019s important to keep an eye out for leaks and act swiftly if you notice anything unusual.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-heading\">\n<h2><strong>Act early to save money<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Also, renewing your policy at the last minute does not usually save you money.
