October marks the halfway point of the\n2021-22 tax year, making it the perfect time to review your ISA and JISA\ncontributions thus far, in addition to any other tax-related issues. Also take\na look at your pension arrangements and check you are adequately protected\nagainst any potential financial shocks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t put it off!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>It\u2019s easy to\ntalk about the importance of keeping on top of our finances and then put the\ntask on the back burner. A recent poll<sup>1<\/sup> discovered that Britain is a\nnation of procrastinators, with 84% of respondents admitting they put off important\ntasks by either doing nothing, or doing something more enjoyable or completely\nunrelated, while one fifth procrastinate every single day!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Facing your finances<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>However, the\nbest way to keep on top of your finances is to deal with them even before you\n\u2018need\u2019 to \u2013 especially when it comes to your pension. Shockingly, research<sup>2<\/sup>\nhas found that almost as many people (34%) know the value of their wardrobe\ncontents as those who know the value of their pension pots (38%)! Meanwhile,\nfar more people know the value of their house (58%), their car (55%) and their\ntelevision (63%).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Clearly, it\nis in our nature to procrastinate. However, many of us do get stressed when\nwe\u2019re not on top of things. You may not get back the\noriginal amount invested. A pension is a long-term investment. The fund value\nmay fluctuate and can go down.
