For example, in its latest assessment, the International Monetary\nFund (IMF) increased its combined 2021 growth forecast for advanced economies\nby half a percentage point, primarily due to the success of vaccine rollouts\nand government stimulus measures supporting recovery. So, with the arrival of\nautumn, there are reasons to be optimistic, though future growth prospects are\nlikely to be closely linked to the course the virus takes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Uncertainties\nand risks<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The IMF\nassessment did highlight a divergence in fortunes between rich and poor nations\ndue to differing levels of access to vaccines. As a result, an offsetting\ndowngrade across emerging markets and developing economies has resulted in the\noverall global growth forecast remaining unchanged.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Ongoing\nconcerns surrounding inflation also persist, despite policymakers\u2019 insistence\nthat the recent upward trend in prices will prove to be transient. Furthermore,\ncurrent levels of government and central bank spending can only be a temporary\nphenomenon and, when stopped, will certainly have an impact on growth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Grounds for\noptimism<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>While the\noutlook is therefore expected to remain relatively uncertain, there are grounds\nfor investor optimism. Market fundamentals remain comparatively strong, with\nearnings growth still being fuelled by pent-up demand as economies reopen, and\ncompanies start to invest again as the recovery continues to gather momentum.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Diversification\nremains vital<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>There is no\nquestion that the world is in a period of immense change, with issues relating\nto the pandemic, as well as sustainability, fundamentally changing the\ninvestment landscape.
