Many will therefore be relieved to\nhear that, while dividends are still falling, they did so in Q1 2021 at the\nslowest rate recorded since the onset of the pandemic. This is according to the\nlatest UK Dividend Monitor<sup>1<\/sup>, which also revealed that half of UK\ncompanies restarted, increased or maintained their dividends in Q1, against a\nthird in Q4 last year. Looking ahead, underlying dividends are predicted to\nincrease by 5.6% year-on-year to \u00a366.4bn, and banking dividends are making a\nslow return with <em>\u2018positive signs from miners, insurance, and media\ncompanies.<\/em>\u2019 Ian Stokes, Managing Director of Corporate Markets EMEA (part\nof Link Group), stated, <em>\u201cDuring the pandemic, many companies that had been\nover-distributing permanently reset their dividends to more sustainable levels.\nMost of these now hope to grow their dividends from this lower base. For\nothers, the effect of the cuts is more transitory so they will bounce back\nquickly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>Link Group, 2021<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong><em>The value\nof investments and income from them may go down.
