It\u2019s even harder to keep track when the cost of living is spiralling.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Setting standards<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association (PLSA) developed its Retirement Living Standards<sup>1<\/sup> to help us to picture what kind of lifestyle we could have in retirement at different levels and what a range of common goods and services would cost for each level.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The cost of a <strong>Minimum<\/strong> lifestyle for a single person has increased from \u00a310,900 in 2021 to \u00a312,800 in 2022, a rise of 18%. For a couple, an income of \u00a316,700 required in 2021 rose to \u00a319,900 (19% increase). Costs factored into this lifestyle include \u2013 \u00a396 for a couple\u2019s weekly food shop, eating out about once a month, a week\u2019s annual holiday in the UK and some affordable leisure activities about twice a week. But there is no budget to run a car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Want more than the minimum?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>At the <strong>Comfortable<\/strong> Retirement Living Standard, retirees can expect more luxuries like regular beauty treatments, three weeks, holiday in Europe each year and theatre trips. The weekly food shop for a couple in this lifestyle amounts to \u00a3238 per week. At this level, the cost of living increased 11% to \u00a337,300 for one person and 10% to \u00a354,500 for a two-person household.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>How much do I need to save?&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>For a comfortable retirement PLSA estimate that a couple who are both in receipt of the full new State Pension would need to accumulate a retirement pot of \u00a3328,000 each, based on an annuity rate of \u00a36,200 per \u00a3100,000.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Your lifestyle, your choice<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>If you\u2019re concerned about your retirement planning we can help you prepare for the lifestyle you want to enjoy.
