{"id":13452,"date":"2023-04-12T11:44:22","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T10:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.contentdeployment.co.uk\/tomd\/?p=13452"},"modified":"2023-04-12T11:44:25","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T10:44:25","slug":"spring-budget-2023-key-points","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.contentdeployment.co.uk\/tomd\/2023\/04\/12\/spring-budget-2023-key-points\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Budget 2023 \u2013 key points\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Chancellor Jeremy Hunt delivered the Spring Budget on 15 March declaring it to be <\/strong><strong><em>\u201cA Budget for Growth.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><strong> The fiscal update included a range of new measures, starting with the latest economic projections from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR):<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>The UK economy is expected to contract by 0.2% this year, with growth predicted to hit 1.8% in 2024 and 2.5% in 2025. A technical recession is expected to be avoided in 2023&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>Inflation is predicted to fall from an average rate of 10.7% in Q4 2022 to 2.9% by the end of this year. This decline is partly due to the three-month extension to the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG), which the government confirmed on 15 March.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The Chancellor\u2019s strategy for growth focuses on four pillars \u2018Everywhere, Enterprise, Employment and Education.\u2019 Key areas within these pillars include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>Investment for \u2018Levelling-Up\u2019 initiatives&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>Providing the right conditions for businesses to succeed&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>New measures to get people back to work, including childcare support.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Pensions<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The spotlight also fell on pensions. To encourage over-50s to extend their working lives, the government is increasing tax relief limits on pension contributions and pots:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>The Annual Allowance will be raised from \u00a340,000 to \u00a360,000 from April 2023; the Lifetime Allowance (LTA) charge will be removed from April 2023, and the LTA will be abolished from April 2024&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>The maximum amount that can be accessed tax free (Pension Commencement Lump Sum) will be frozen at its current level of \u00a3268,275 (25% of current LTA)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>From April, the minimum Tapered Annual Allowance (TAA) and the Money Purchase Annual Allowance (MPAA) will increase from \u00a34,000 to \u00a310,000. The adjusted income threshold for the TAA will also rise, from \u00a3240,000 to \u00a3260,000.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>In addition, previously announced State Pension increases from April 2023 are as follows:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>Basic State Pension &#8211; increase to \u00a3156.20 per week&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list-item\">\n<li>Full new State Pension &#8211; increase to \u00a3203.85 per week.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>The value of investments can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount you invested.
