The new regulations will enable trustees to prevent a transfer request if they see evidence of \u2018red flags.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>More protection<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Before the change, pension providers were not allowed to\nrefuse a transfer where the saver had the right to make it, even if the\ntransfer seemed suspicious. With pension scam losses totalling millions each\nyear, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is keen to tackle scams head on to\nensure the long-term health of the pensions market.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>In a speech to delegates at the Pensions and Lifetime\nSavings Association, the FCA\u2019s Executive Director of Markets Sarah Pritchard\nsaid steps have been taken to stop scams reaching consumers,<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe want people to be better protected from the risks of\nscams and know how to protect themselves against them. Our ScamSmart\ncampaign&#8230; gives knowledge and tools to help people protect themselves from\nscams.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Simple steps<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>We can all take simple steps to protect ourselves against\npotential scams. These include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><li>Making sure you check who you\u2019re dealing with<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><li>Never giving out personal information you\nwouldn\u2019t share with a stranger<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-list\">\n<ul><li>Not feeling pressurised into making quick\ndecisions.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong><em>It is\nimportant to take professional advice before making any decision relating to\nyour personal finances.
