Researchers deduced that this appears to fit in with a\nbroader theme where women tend to connect investing to outcomes for their\nfamily more than to their own needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>A tailing-off in contributions is evident as children get\nolder. Just over two thirds (67%) of new parents start investing or saving for\ntheir new-borns, falling to 54% by the time children reach secondary-school\nage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Cash isn\u2019t always king<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>It\u2019s important to make sure that the money works hard for\nthe long term. The research highlights that most savings are held in premium\nbonds or cash products, such as cash Junior Individual Savings Accounts\n(JISAs). Having recently celebrated its tenth birthday, the JISA allowance has\nincreased over the years from \u00a33,600 a year in April 2011 to \u00a39,000 a year\ntoday \u2013 currently stocks and shares JISAs make up just 3% of all accounts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Choosing cash can limit the impact of parents\u2019 savings,\nespecially in times of rising inflation, as the real value of cash will erode\nover time.
