As more investors\nseek out sustainable funds for their money, the IMF is calling on governments\nto protect investors from greenwashing, urging regulators to stop financial\ncompanies making misleading claims about their environmental credentials.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Going green<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Greenwashing, where organisations present an environmentally\nresponsible public image when this isn\u2019t necessarily true, could hinder\nsustainability efforts, which the IMF is eager to tackle \u2013 <em>\u201cProper\nregulatory oversight and verification mechanisms are essential to avoid\ngreenwashing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>The UK government is taking such steps. From April, over\n1,300 of the largest UK-registered companies and financial institutions \u2013 firms\nwith turnover above \u00a3500m and at least 500 employees \u2013 will have to disclose\nclimate-related financial information. They will be required to consider the\nrisks and opportunities they face from climate change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Long-term strategies <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Economic Secretary to the Treasury, John Glen, commented, <em>\u201cThese\nrequirements will not only help tackle greenwashing but also enable investors\nand businesses to align their long-term strategies with the UK\u2019s net-zero\ncommitments.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong><em>It is\nimportant to take professional advice before making any decision relating to\nyour personal finances.
