While ongoing concerns about new variants, supply chain\ndisruption and rising inflation may be disconcerting for investors, the next 12\nmonths are likely to hold opportunities as well as risks, as we hopefully\njourney towards a post-pandemic future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Prior to the emergence of the Omicron variant, the\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted a continuation of the global\nrecovery in 2022 with the world economy forecast to grow by 4.9%. However,\nthere was an acknowledgement that the degree of uncertainty surrounding\nprospects had risen, with policy choices becoming more difficult and complex.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>A key area of concern relates to the new virus strain which\nthe Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Chief\nEconomist Laurence Boone said could pose <em>\u201ca threat to the recovery, delaying\na return to normality or something even worse.\u201d<\/em> While the forecasting\nagency did warn that the new variant threatens to intensify the imbalances that\nare slowing growth and raising inflationary pressures, it also advised monetary\npolicymakers to be <em>\u2018cautious,\u2019<\/em> stating that the most pressing policy\nrequirement was currently to accelerate the vaccine roll-out programme\nglobally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p><strong>Be strategic to build your wealth <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"hd-block hd-block-paragraph\">\n<p>Global supply chain issues and rising inflation have created\na policy dilemma for central banks. These dual concerns have heightened the\nneed for investors to adopt careful and considered strategic thinking to\nreposition their portfolios to take advantage of opportunities while ensuring\ntheir wealth is inflation proofed as well as possible. With deposit-based\nsavings rates forecast to remain at low levels, such slim returns have prompted\nmany savers to shift their money into investments, with research<sup>1<\/sup>\nsuggesting over half of all adults have done so.
