Research\nconstantly shows that people typically leave retirement planning too late and\nregret not saving more across their working lives. For instance, a survey1<\/sup>\nrecently revealed one in five people expect to leave planning for their\nretirement until they are aged at least60. Another study2<\/sup>\nfound almost half of over-50s regret not saving into a pension sooner, while\nnearly two thirds wished they had made larger contributions at an earlier\nstage. These findings vividly highlight the need for more people to take\ncontrol and prioritise retirement planning earlier in their working lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Pension\nblind spots<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Other\nresearch3<\/sup> has revealed the cost of being kept in the dark on key\npension details, with over three-quarters of people not knowing how much they\npay in pension fees. Additionally, a third of pension holders are unaware of\ntheir pension\u2019s risk profile, with a similar proportion invested in low-risk\nfunds. This lack of awareness in relation to fees and investment choices is\nestimated to cost an average pension holder around \u00a3120,000 over their working\nlife.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Engagement\ngap<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The lack\nof engagement has led the Association of British Insurers and Pensions and\nLifetime Savings Association to launch an industry campaign to boost people\u2019s\nunderstanding of pensions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The\ncampaign, which is due to run this autumn and winter, will aim to raise\nawareness of various pension-related issues so that more people can ultimately\nenjoy a better standard of living in retirement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
